This course will focus on reading as a developmental process. Stages of literacy development and the five essential pillars of reading instruction will be explored. Issues to be discussed include early literacy, assessment, classroom management, adolescent literacy, parent involvement, and literacy across the curriculum. Students will apply their learning to planning and teaching three days of reading workshop lessons.
