ILLiad is the name of our online inter-library loan interface. It is how you make requests for and receive materials.
Articles and book chapters will arrive electronically in your ILLiad account. They often arrive within one day. For physical items, such as books, allow 7-10 business days. You will receive an email letting you know that your material has arrived: in your ILLiad account for electronic requests or at the Library campus you chose for books.
Most requests are free to all current USM students, faculty, and staff.
When filling out the request form, always set the 'maximum cost' to $0.00. In the rare instances there is a fee, we will contact you, tell you the fee, and ask if you still want the material.
Contact the InterLibrary Loan office at (207) 228-8449 or (207) 780-5343 .
you'll need to Create an Account. It's free and only takes a minute. This is a separate system from other University systems. You can use the same username you use to sign into your @maine.edu account, but you should create a different password.
When creating your ILLiad account, you will need your library barcode number. It is the small black number on your USM ID that begins with 218... or 250... On older cards the number is on the front of the card. Newer cards have the number on the reverse side.
contact Card Services to get an ID.
...If you have an ID you may call our Circulation staff and get it ‘activated’ for use as a library card. This is supposed to happen automatically, but sometimes an ID gets missed.
...sorry, but non-USM IDs don't work with our inter-library loan system. There are two alternatives that may be helpful:
