How to Access SciFinder

Sign-in to MyUSM Portal
For best results, sign-in to MyUSM portal before beginning your work. Use your username, typically your firstname.lastname. No need to use @maine.edu.

Log into your account.

SciFinder-n
Covers literature (including patents) on all branches of chemistry, as well as related fields. Includes data from Chemical Abstracts and the MEDLINE database. Search options include keyword, CAS Registry number, chemical structure, chemical reaction, and more.

Create a SciFinder Account
All new SciFinder users must create an account. You must use your @maine.edu email address to create a SciFinder account.

NOTICE: SciFinder may be used only for educational or academic research activities. All USM users must comply with the terms of the SciFinder license agreement, which will appear on each login. Your use of this database may be monitored by Chemical Abstracts Service. They may terminate access for all USM SciFinder account holders if they detect possible misuse.

Why do I need a SciFinder account?

SciFinder requires added security so in order to access it you need to create a personal account. One reason for this is that SciFinder gives users the ability to make purchases.
