CRM 402: Criminology Capstone: CRM 402

Learning objectives for this class

After our library session, you will be able to:

- Construct a search in Sociology Collection or Criminal Justice Abstracts that retrieves a reasonable number of relevant results

- Use Article Linker successfully most of the time.

- Be able to distinguish among various kinds of citations - books, government documents, journal articles, etc.

- Determine whether USM has an article or book for which you already have a citation

- Request publications that our library does not own.

- Get in touch with a live library staff member who will be able to help.

Suggestions

Check the references in the articles, books, and reports you use - they may lead you to other useful resources.  More about how to do this here

If you find a citation to a source that seems to be a recent report from a government, NGO, etc., try searching for the title (in quotation marks) using Google or your favorite search engine; a lot of these are freely available on the Web.

Keep a careful record of where and how you have searched (ie., database or website name and search terms used) - it will save you time in the long run!  One example is linked here.

If your Search of choice is Google Scholar, log in to the USM Portal first  and access it from the Libraries' database list - this way you'll see our holdings.

If you don't have an ILLIad (Interlibrary Loan) account, it's time to register.
