Finding Funding with Pivot: Searching Pivot

Basic Searching

To run a basic search for funding, click the "Funding" tab from the Pivot homepage.

There are 3 options to run a basic search:

  • "Search All Fields" - type whatever words describe your research. What you would typically think of as a keyword search but Pivot calls something different a keyword search.
  • "Search by Funder" - search or browse for individual funding agencies/organizations/foundations
  • "Search by Keyword" - start typing your overall research area and Pivot will suggest categories. You can select multiple categories with this one.

After you have run your search, you can use filters on the left side to narrow down your results. You can filter by funding type, applicant type, currency, language, and more.

Advanced Searching

To run an Advanced search for funding, click the "Funding" tab from the Pivot homepage then select "Advanced Search" under the search box.

There are many facets to an advanced search, and you will not necessarily want to use all of them in one search.

Start by entering a few search terms in the boxes.

The best choices for facets to apply include:

  • Amount: if you want to enter a grant amount minimum or range
  • Applicant/institution location: Start typing "Maine" in the text box, then select it. make sure all 4 check boxes below are selected.
  • Citizenship: Some grants are limited to citizens of a particular country, so enter your citizenship information here. Make sure Unrestricted and Unspecified are also checked.
  • Funding type: Select the type(s) of funding you are looking for (e.g. research, conference travel, equipment & materials, etc).

You may choose to use other facets as well depending on what you're looking for!
