Maine Academic Libraries Day 2023: Concurrent Sessions 1 (11:00-12:00)

Concurrent Sessions 1 (11:00-12:00)

Session Descriptions & Locations

Meeting Students' Information Literacy Needs with Librarian-led Instruction (Workshop)

Student success and retention rates are higher when librarians and course instructors collaborate in partnership to provide librarian-led information literacy instruction for students. Librarians can increase opportunities for instruction when they bring specific course-connected information literacy instruction plans to faculty.

Bring two lesson plans - one for which you would like some input or feedback, and one that you would like to share with others.

Participants will: workshop a lesson plan for a library instruction session, take away lesson plan samples and suggestions to guide their instruction, connect with other instruction librarians to develop a professional network.

Target Audience: Instruction librarians

Presenter: Rebecca Bushby, Information Literacy Librarian, University of Southern Maine

Location: Room 293

Where We Are with OER (Presentation)

Six librarians will share where their institutions are with OER initiatives, including lessons learned and future plans. A great opportunity for discussion whether you are just starting with OER, have a well established initiative at your institution, or are somewhere in-between.

Presenters: Shelly Davis (University Librarian, Husson University), Beth Dyer (Dean of Library Services, University of New England), Megan MacGregor (Instruction and Outreach Librarian, University of Southern Maine), Judi Moreno (Director of the Learning Commons, Central Maine Community College), David Smith (Associate Director of Library Services, Thomas College), Cynthia Young (Director of Library Services, University of Maine at Augusta).

Location: Room 180

Circulation Roundtable

We make many assumptions on how best to serve patrons within our library contexts and constituencies. While this is absolutely necessary, it can also limit our perspectives and preclude other possibilities. The goals of this roundtable are to: bring collective wisdom to bear on improving the ways we do things at our respective libraries, create a forum to continue our discussions on a regular basis, and form meaningful relationships with academic library employees throughout Maine.

Presenter: Jerry Lund (Circulation Manager, University of Maine) & Laurie Mathes (Access Services Librarian, University of New England)

Location: Room 190
