The transition to the new ILS may affect some faculty course processes. Below are some of these. Dates will be provided as we get them. Please refer back here or to the Timetable tab for updated dates.
Course Reserves and Purchasing
Instructors who are planning to use new material for Course Reserves in a summer or fall 2024 course should contact Course Reserves and/or Acquisitions staff at your local library (see campus library links on the Home page) to determine if purchasing or licensing is needed before May 16. This is advised because the Libraries may temporarily stop purchasing new materials at some time during the transition.
Pointing to persistent links in the catalog - For anyone pointing to persistent links, It is highly recommended to start gathering record information now (author, title, etc.), and make note of any new ones you use. The deadline to do this by is June 7th, which is the beginning of the transition to the new ILS. Once the transition is complete, all persistent links pointing to catalog records will no longer work. After June 19, you will have the opportunity to update your persistent links. Please contact library staff on your campus if you need or want help.
Due to the change in the Library ILS, there will be some maintenance you will need to do to make sure you have working links. For example, persistent links you may have used in your Brightspace course or syllabi.
USM patron requesting via MaineCat (which includes Colby, Bates, Bowdoin, Portland Public, and many other Maine public and academic libraries) will be disabled from May 31 through the fall, as we work to integrate our new ILS.
The easiest way to request items from these libraries while MaineCat requesting is offline will be via ILLiad. If you do not already have an ILLiad account, we recommend creating one as soon as possible. More information, including how to create an account and how to get ILLiad assistance, can be found in our ILLiad FAQ.
